Fixed Gear Bikes Takeover: Germany Releases Fixed City in August

( TheSaiko.com )
It sounds like Germany is “wowing” the rest of the cycling community with their new documentary called Fixed City. This is just another illustration of the hostile takeover of fixed gear bikes across the major cities of the world. Comrades, grab your brakes, your normal fitting denim and barricade the windows!
Before we roll up our sleeves and get into the nitty gritty, let us state: We are looking forward to watching Fixed City.
If you are like The Saiko, you are ready to give the fixed gear trend a big fat *YAWN*. Sure it was “cool” back when being called a hipster wasn’t an insult. Now, it’s a whole different story. Each conversation with most fixed gear riders ultimately devolves into some sort of drivel resembling, “Dude, back when *I* started riding…which was like 3 years ago…nobody was riding.”
Sadly, one of the characters in this documentary holds that same attitude, but redeems herself in Act 3 by not sleeping with cousin of the Capulets and confesses that she’s just happy to see more people on bikes. We couldn’t agree more. There is another character that is candid about hoping he could get into riding fixed gear bikes and save some cash since the bikes are so simple. He quickly realizes there’s no chance for that.
The movie overall documents the fixed gear fever sweeping major metropolitan areas by following a few different groups of riders: bike messengers (ala Kevin Bacon), regular guys and females.
That’s our take. Watch the Fixed City trailer below.
