Will Ferrell is Eastbound and Down

( TheSaiko.com )
By Will Ferrell jumping on as executive producer on “Eastbound & Down” he is helping drive the nail into the coffin of bad major network television shows. At the same time, he’s adding more and more to the vaults of HBO. Thank Gypsy for cable TV! The Saiko is going to the hardware store right now to get Ferrell and the writers of this show a bigger hammer.
Eastbound & Down is a hilarious comedy about a washed-out pro baseball player (played by Danny McBride) that was busted for drugs and has been forced to return to his hometown and become a PE coach at a high school. The language is natural and foul. If you are a 20 or 30 something male, then this show was made for you.
We must say that it does take a few minutes to get the feel of the show. After you settle into the relationships and the quirks of the characters, you’ll be laughing out loud. Seriously. Of course they have an attractive gal in the mix. That doesn’t hurt in keeping the viewers’ attention.
Here’s a breakdown of the show’s story:
Kenny Powers, played by Danny Mcbride, is an obnoxious, over-the-top and cocky relief pitcher in professional baseball who is forced to retire following a scandal plastered all over the media. He returns back to his bland hometown to live with his understanding, square and generous brother, played by John Hawkes. In order to avoid being thrown out of his brother’s house (where he’s currently staying), Kenny Powers takes a job as a substitute PE teacher at his old high school alma mater. Kenny’s ego and the conservative students and faculty provide a volatile mix that has endless possibilities and pitfalls.
