World Record for Solo Circumnavigation of Globe Set by Zac Sunderland, 17

The Longest Journey

( TheSaiko.com )

Zac Sunderland set a new world record by becoming the youngest person to solo circumnavigate the globe.  He’s 17.  That’s not a typo.  This new world record has illustrated that this 17 year old can kick your 17 year old’s ass.  That’s not a typo, either.

When most of us at The Saiko were 17, we were solely consumed with how we were going to hook up with chicks.  I think we had been in a boat, but we’re pretty sure it didn’t involve traveling around the world.  He’ll we weren’t even by ourselves.  We suck.

Our main man Zac Sunderland has done it.  He survived 13 months on the ocean, sea monsters, Beowulf and endless hours of  ”dude, I have to eat this same old crap again?!”  To the standing record holder for the youngest solo circumnavigation of the globe from Australian, Jesse Martin, this past week couldn’t have been gloomier.

Sunderland strolled into Fisherman’s Village located in Marina del Rey in Los Angeles.  The morning cyclists, runners and boat bums had no idea that this young record holder existed; let alone that he completed his journey right under their noses.  Marina del Rey and Venice Beach are typically only known for having the sickest tie die shirts, the birth of modern skateboarding and having the crappiest restaurants in all of the universe.  This was a big day for folks in this Southern California community.

You can find more info about Zac’s entire trip on the official Zac Sunderland blog.
